The main aim of the Johari Window model is to analyze the levels of self-discovery and self-presentation in the process of the interaction. Based on the researches, the model is applied to illustrated the process of giving and receiving feedback from one person to another person. Hence, the model can also be considered as a communication model which helps both individual and group in giving and receiving information about themselves and others.
So, are you ready to start the learning journey? Let's start! Looking at the image that shown in the left side, you will discover that Johari Window model is in four panes design in terms of open area, blind area, hidden area and unknown area. As you seen, there are two columns and two rows. Columns are about the self whereas rows are about the group. For instance, column one (open & hidden) represents the things that people knows about himself ; column two (blind & unknown) represents the things that people does not know about himself. Other than that, row one (open & blind) represents that the things that the group knows about a person ; row two (hidden & unknown) represents that the things that the group does not know about a person. The size and shape of the panes within the Johari Window would change depends on the action taken by either individual or group. The information contained in the columns and rows can be moved from its original pane to another pane in exchaging feedback and increasing the level of mutual trust within a group.
